Benefits of a membership

Activities of children and young people

The club organises activities for children and young people aged 6 and over. The best time to start is in spring in April, when HS Junnut activities start after the winter season. HS Junnut has three different skill level groups, Squirrels, Foxes and Wolves. Those who start orienteering start in the Squirrels group and move up from there as their skills improve. During the summer season, the skill level groups include orienteering practice and during the winter season, training on Sundays, Saturdays and Tuesdays with orienteering and running practice. Orienteering is an individual sport, but as a club we understand the importance of friends and groups in recreational activities. That is why camps and competition trips are an essential part of the children’s activities as a supplement to the weekly training sessions. Read more about activities for children and young people.

Training

You can apply for goal-oriented coaching for youth and adults if you want to compete in the HD14–HD21 series. The groups are the youth coaching group (HD14–HD18), the women’s coaching group and the men’s coaching group. In the club’s coaching, success-oriented and motivated athletes are supported in their development. You can also participate in the youth coaching group as a hobby without any goals. Read more about the training groups.

Orienteering as a hobby

All events marked in the HS calendar (in Jäsenpalvelu myClub) and described below are free of charge as member benefits. Your member information is automatically transferred from the member service (jäsenpalvelu myClub) to the visitor management of the events, and the membership is recognized at the sale of the events by stamping the Emit card.

Yhteislähtö

Helsingin Suunnistajat has a training group called Yhteislähtö that can be joined by an adult member of the club and an orienteering enthusiast who needs meaningful, guided exercises and a group around. There are no age or fitness restrictions except adulthood (18v -) and the fact that you can survive on the terrain independently if necessary. Read more about the activities of Yhteislähtö.

Iltarastit, Firmaliiga and Stadin Sprintticup

Members of HS can participate Iltarastit, Firmaliiga open orienteering and Sprintticup (organisize by HS) events free of charge. Iltarastit are organized every Monday from March to the beginning of September and from then on on Sundays until the end of October. In total, there will be 31 Iltarastit during the 2025 season and four Stadin Sprintticup events organized by HS. Read more from the Iltarasti calendar.

Firmaliiga is a series of six competitions aimed at companies, with three competitions in spring and three in autumn. In addition to the company league, an open fitness orientation is also organized. In the spring, before the start of the Iltarasti season, the Stadin Sprintticup is organized in the Helsinki neighborhoods.

Nuuksion Huurteinen

In November, we will organize Nuuksion Huurteinen, where members can join for free. It is an event aimed at fitness enthusiasts, which can be carried out as a long-distance orientation or rogaine alone or in small teams. Read more about the event at this link.

Club exercises

At summer season Including all Iltarastit training possibilities common training opportunities open to all members and free of charge include an orienteering training session called HS-Taito on wednesdays. During the winter season HS-Taito is on Saturdays, hill-and drilltraining on Thursdays in Paloheinä and a joint gym session for children and adults in Paloheinä on Sundays.

All these events can be found in the HS member service, under the group “seuran yhteiset harjoitukset”. Other joint exercises are organised according to the season, the weather and the availability of active members.

National and other competitions

Membership of the club entitles you to purchase the competition license of the Finnish Orienteering Association, which is required for participating in national orienteering competitions. The club pays the participation fees for the normal registration period centrally through the IRMA system and invoices them to the members at the end of the season. For children under 14, the club buys a competition license centrally.

Relays

As a member of the club, you can participate in AM and SM messages in the club’s teams. The club pays the participation fees of these teams. The club’s members also participate annually in the Jukola and Venloje relays, the 25manna relay in Sweden and the Halikko relay. In these messages, the member pays for his participation himself. The messages become information for member service bulletins.

Club championship

In autumn, the club’s championship competition is organized, the implementation of which is limited by imagination. The goal is a fun competition where you measure yourself and each other with equal rules for different ages.

Information and communication

Our website helsinginsuunnistajat.fi is the information channel for our external communication. In addition, the social media channels for external communication are the facebook page Helsingin Suunnistajat and the Instagram account @hsorienteering.

The internal communication channel is the member service, which is implemented through the myClub system. The member service contains both permanent publications and newsletters as well as newsletters targeted at different groups. To learn more about how to use the member service, read the newsletter. It is also worth joining the internal Facebook group “Helsingin Suunnistajien jäsenet”

Almost every HS group also has its own WhatsApp groups where information is shared, so it’s worth asking the contact persons which ones to join.

Clothing, equipment and benefits offered by partners

As a club member, you can buy quality sportswear a couple of times a year at club prices. Our partner Noname manufactures the club equipment.

The club has many partners who occasionally organise special offers for members. Examples of these have been Lumonite headlamps, PekkaSport shoe offers, Suunnistajan Kauppa´s Emit offers and TallinkSilja group travel discounts. These offers are announced in the Members’ Service and in the monthly newsletter.

Club activities and voluntary work

By taking an active part in club activities and volunteering, you can meet nice people and learn new things about orienteering. At the same time, you will be involved in the club’s work to support children, young people and coaching athletes.

Membership obligations and expectations

Membership fee

In 2025, the annual membership fee per adult member will be 80 €. Full-time students and those under 21 and aged 67-85 will pay 40 €, and those aged 85 and over will not be charged. At the beginning of the year, everyone receives a membership invoice personally via the membership service.

If a new member joins in October or later, the membership fee will not be invoiced until January of the following year. Organisation of evening races and other fitness events

Organisation of the Iltarastit events is by far the most important annual effort of the club. The club hopes that all members will participate, if possible, three times during the season in the organisation of the fitness trail events or other club events or activities.

All volunteer opportunities for Iltarastit and other events will be published in the Members’ Service calendar in the form example”Ma 17.8. Iltarastit at Paloheinä” with an official shift. The events are listed in the group KS-tapahtumat (events) below. You can select the events that fit your own schedule and write in the message field which task you could take part in. We also hope that you would take at least one shift in the autumn season, so that there are enough people to keep you busy until the end of the season. In case of an obstacle, you can modify your participation later. The evening race boss will guide you through the process. Presentation of the tasks (in finnish)

Organisation of races

We organise the annual Helsinki O-Games (HOG) the week before Jukola. A lot of people are needed for the race. This event can be found in the Member Service under the “kilpailutapahtumat” (race events) group. We may also organise other events and competitions each year for which we ask for volunteers separately.

Other arrangements

Helsingin Suunnistajat organises many activities. For example, there is a need for volunteers for HS Junnut, coaching activities and training sessions. Be active and take the initiative yourself!
