Iltarastien 25.7. Kattilajärvi teemana on rastinotto. Ratamestari David Farkas kertoo:
Every year when I get to design courses for Iltarastit, I try to come out with something different from standard. Last two occasions I provided some form of interval training exercise possibility for those who wanted to participate, which I am a big fan of.
This year I attempt to do a training type called Control picking. (https://o-training.net/w/Control_picking)
The training is focusing on the last part of the control catching process, when you are close to the checkpoint, and you have to pay more attention to detail. Each courses have lots of short legs with lots of direction switching. You will experience this to be more taxing mentally on the longer courses. Where on normal courses you often have road runs, or longer parts where your mind can rest a bit, here you are continuously on the “end game” of a leg, and have to read the map carefully. Direction choosing when you run out from a control is half the victory, so compass using is critical.
I had limited number of controls to use, so on the longer courses the first part is control picking, and the last few kilometers are longer route choice legs. Ideally more controls would be better. For this type of training 100 controls on a 9km course is not unheard of. (Example: https://doma.haldensk.no/show_map.php?user=andreas&map=2818)
The 6km leg has less of this theme for those who would dislike too many controls. The number of controls for the different courses for 25.7. Kattilajärvi:
- 1.5: 5cp
- 3: 9cp
- 4: 12cp
- 4V: 13cp
- 5: 17cp
- 6: 15cp
- 7: 27cp
- 9: 41cp
I hope the courses will be fun for hobby runners, and racers alike!
